On the evening of July 23, 2022, Betty Self Hughes of Seminary closed her eyes on this earth and opened them as she ran fully healed into the loving arm of Jesus. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. Reverend Brooks Porter and Reverend Richard Green will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Norris, Justin Norris, Allison Rayburn, Jackson Ross, William Ross, Matthew Rigel, Daniel Rigel, Andrew Rigel, and Trent Norris.

Originally from Darlington South Carolina, she lived most of her adult life in Seminary. She and her husband of 67 years, William(Boots) Hughes owned various food stores in the area until they sold them to allow more time with family as grandchildren were born. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist church in Collins. She enjoyed sewing, working in her yard and watching college sports. Mrs. Hughes was always the happiest sitting on the front porch with her three daughters watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren play in the yard. Other than her relationship with the Lord, there was nothing more important to her than spending time with her husband and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lemon Self of Darlington South Carolina and Marie and Wallace Stewart of Columbia South Carolina. Her siblings; Edward Self, Elizabeth O'Neal, Bill Self, Leon Self, Dorothy Sox and Ronnie Stewart of Columbia South Carolina, and Louise Cartmell of Winder Georgia. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Mr & Mrs W.M. Hughes, and her son-in-laws, Jimmy Norris and Doug Baker, all of Seminary.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband William "Boots" Hughes; her daughters Wanda Baker of Seminary, Brenda(Randy) Ross, and Donna (Danny Rigel) of Hattiesburg. She is survived by one sister Gertrude (Gale) Barton of Ft. Walton, Florida; her sister-in-law, Helga Self of Columbia South Carolina, Pete Cartmell of Winder GA and Gale Leonard of Ft. Walton, FL. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00am until 11:00am at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church.
