Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Sue Thompson will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 24, 2022, in the Wade Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Thompson, age 83, passed away from this life on Monday, September 19, 2022, in Laurel. Reverend Sammy Ellis and Deacon Earl Yarbrough will officiate and interment will follow in the Collins City Cemetery.

Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Benjie Merchant, Bradley Merchant, Jody Thompson, Brandon Parker, Reggie Mixon, and David Pulliam. Honorary Pallbearer will be Marshall Cooper.

Betty Sue Merchant Thompson was born on August 29, 1939, in Columbia, to Charles Floyd Merchant and Hester Martin Merchant. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and was active in the Big Creek Baptist Church for the last several years.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Jimmy Thompson; 3 brothers, Bill Merchant, Joe Merchant, and Doug Merchant; and 2 sisters, Mattie Dunaway and Joyce McRaney.

Survivors include 2 children, Leisa Adcock of Baton Rouge, LA, and Adam Thompson of Soso; 1 granddaughter, Emily Adcock of Baton Rouge, LA; 3 step-children, Ronny Thompson (Darlene) of Collins, Jody Thompson (Janet) of Hattiesburg, and Regina Thompson-Hinkeldey (Jeff) of Papillion, NE; 8 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Bruce Merchant (Freida) of Soso; and 1 sister, Mary Merchant Hartfield of Hattiesburg; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Wade Funeral Home.
