A memorial service for Mrs. Doris Howard will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs. Mrs. Howard, age 80, passed away from this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in Jackson. Reverend Chris Teasley and Reverend Dr. Dale Patterson will officiate.

Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Doris Kay Patterson Howard was born on August 4, 1945, in Sumrall, to Orell and Florence Atwood Patterson. Mrs. Howard retired as the Human Resources Director for the Olinde's Furniture Company in Baton Rouge, LA.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs.

The following are memories shared from her family:

"Mom had a way of making our home cozy.  She was very talented in crafts and interior decorating. She always made the holidays special and a whole season. She would decorate the house so much it should have been on tour for everyone to enjoy.

Mom had a love for Jesus, family, friends, and of course her dog, Daisy.

Mom taught us not to give up and no matter the circumstance 'this too shall pass". She and Dad taught us what love is and we can do anything we set our minds too. She had a great laugh.  When she would start laughing we could egg her on and  we would cry from laughing at her laughing.  She loved to watch LSU football and baseball and winning at Phase 10.

She loved to cook and experiment with making different dishes, especially soups and casseroles.  She made the best fried chicken.

She will be greatly missed by all of our friends, family and Daisy."

Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her mother and father, Orell and Florence Patterson; 1 sister, Elizabeth Aultman; and 3 brothers, Dr. Burl Patterson, B.H. Patterson, and Charles Patterson.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Walter Lee Howard of Crystal Springs; 1 son, Walley Howard and his wife Miriam of Walker, LA; 1 daughter, Angela Vowell and her husband Jerry of St. George, UT; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 brother, Dr. Dale Patterson of Pensacola, FL; and 1 sister, Estelle Herrin of Clinton; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive visitors from 2:00pm on Sunday until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be directed to the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs at 300 S Jackson Street, Crystal Springs, MS 39059.
