Funeral Services for Mr. Gabriel "Joe" Carter will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Wade Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Carter, age 80, passed away from this life on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in Laurel. Reverend Michael Miller, Reverend Jeremy Miller, Reverend Rocky Colson, and Reverend Stephen Bush will officiate. Interment will be in the Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbeaers will be Chris Smith, Delain Phillips, Blake Young, Eric Holmes, Matthew Holmes, and Eli Carter.

Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gabriel "Joe" Carter was born on January 26, 1943, in Lawrence County, to Robert and Almedia Smith Carter. Mr. Carter was a retired welder and a member of Vision Baptist Church.

Mr. Carter was preceeded in death by his mother and father, and 15 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Janice Bynum Carter of Ovett, 2 daughters, Elaine Carter of Ovett and Lynn Carter Holmes (Tim) of Runnelstown; 1 son, Joseph Carter (Angie) of Collins; 17 grandchildren, Michael Miller, Jeremy Miller, Blake Young, Eric Holmes, Matthew Holmes, Jessica Holmes, Christopher Smith, Briana Smith, Delain Phillips, Jessie Phillips, Adam Phillips, Jacob Phillips, Tony Phillips, Magen Bush, Coy Carter, Andrea Ellis, and Eli Carter; 24, great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Janelle Townsend of Bassfield and Bobbie Runnels of Seminary; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Wade Funeral Home.
