Funeral services for Jeanelle Mayfield Dickens will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Salem Baptist Church. Mrs. Dickens, age 92, passed away from this life on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, in Collins.  The Reverend Dennis Campbell, Reverend Thomas Shields, and Mr. Chris Hull will officiate. Noah Sanford will provide the musical service. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery.

Wade Funeral Home of Collins is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers include Stacy Dickens, Brian Dickens, Frank Dobbs, Eddie Guillot, Joe Darrell Mayfield, and Josh Shoemaker. James Bolen, Wayne Calhoun, James Carter, and Zachary Holifield will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Jeanelle Mayfield Dickens was born August 14, 1927 in Taylorsville to George Leeman Mayfield and Hattie Duckworth Mayfield. Mrs. Dickens was retired from Southern Pine Electric Power Association, where she served as an administrative assistant, draftsman, and project specialist. She was a devoted member of Salem Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the handbells.

Jeanelle enjoyed a large family while growing up. She had two brothers and two sisters and she loved her family and adored her parents. She looked after her parents and her parents-in-law until their deaths.

Jeanelle met her sweetheart, Quinn, when she was a freshman at Salem School. They were married in 1947. Jeanelle and Quinn were blessed with two children, Larry Quinn and Barbara Kaye. Their family grew when Larry married Sue Byrd and again when Kaye married Ronnie Holifield.

Jeanelle took extreme pride in her grandchildren, all five of them. She enjoyed visits with Larry's family when they would travel from their homes in Colorado and Virginia. She lived close by to Kaye's family. Being so close meant she never missed a school program, concert, graduation or birthday.

Jeanelle and Quinn moved frequently in the beginning of Quinn's career. Once the couple settled at home in the Pinebelt, Jeanelle had a 26-year career at Southern Pine Electric Power Association in Taylorsville as a draftsman and administrative assistant. Jeanelle was blessed with 24 years of retirement. Together, Jeanelle and Quinn enjoyed many trips to the Smokey Mountains and numerous activities with their family.

Mrs. Dickens was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband of 67 years, Quinn Parker Dickens; a daughter-in-law, Karen Sue Dickens; 2 brothers, Lynon Mayfield and Joe Mayfield; and 2 sisters, Elaine Carter and Glynda Powell.

Survivors include 1 son, Larry Dickens of Lake Anna, VA; 1 daughter, Kay Holifield and her husband Ronnie of Taylorsville; 5 grandchildren, Stacy Dickens, Brian Dickens, Julie Dickens Jones, Lisa Holifield Shoemaker, and Zachary Holifield; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sister-in-laws, Shirley Mayfield and Margaret Ruth Mayfield, both of Collins; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Wade Funeral Home in Collins.
