Funeral Services for Judith Carter Dobbs of Hot Coffee will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Calhoun Baptist Church in Hot Coffee. Mrs. Dobbs was a Hot Coffee resident and passed away from this life on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in Colorado Springs, CO. Interment will follow in the Oakahay Cemetery.

Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Serving as pallbearers are Richard P. Duckworth, Keith Carter, Chuck Carter, Richard T. Dobbs, Jr., Caleb McGill, and Eric Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted W. Dobbs, Robert C. Dobbs, Richard T. Dobbs, Zachary Holifield, Joseph Blakeney, Noel Rogers, Chris McDaniel, Patrick Robey, Dwight Hester, and Jarrod Jordan.

Judy Carter Dobbs was born in Dallas, TX, on October 17, 1943, to James Harvey Carter and Elaine Mayfield Carter.  She grew up in Hot Coffee and attended Mississippi State University and Baylor University where she studied pre-law.  She left school in 1964 to marry Frank Dobbs and raise her three sons.  As the boys got older, she returned to the work force as the office manager for State Farm Insurance for over 25 years, where her reputation for customer service was impeccable.

Judy Dobbs was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church in Hot Coffee.  She practiced her religion as an advocate for any underdog (human, canine or feline).  She insisted on treating everyone equally and fairly to include providing a home for many strays and serving as a second mother for many of the boys' friends.  When Judy knew of a need in her community, she provided meals, red velvet cakes, ginger cookies, and vegetables from her garden.

Judy believed in the value of education to include athletics.  She could be found most Friday nights wearing green and gold supporting the Taylorsville Tartars. Her sons gained an appreciation for literature from hearing her quote the beginning of the Canterbury Tales in Old-English and always seeing a book in her hand.   She had most of Dr. Suess's books memorized, which she shared with her boys and grandchildren.  One of her favorites was Horton Hatches an Egg which she often quoted… "I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful, one hundred percent!"

During the boys' adult years, Judy enjoyed traveling to visit them from Germany to Detroit, Colorado to Florida and Lafayette to Georgia.  The addition of grandchildren brought additional pride to Judy as well as some mischief.  One favorite activity of the girls was "cooking."  This activity involved making creations for Grandpa that resulted in huge messes in the kitchen and creations that the dogs would not eat.  As a proud Grandma, she enjoyed the giggles of all her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her spouse of 58 years, Frank S. Dobbs; her parents, James Harvey Carter and Elaine Mayfield Carter; and her brother, Charles Mayfield Carter.

Mrs. Dobbs  is survived by her three sons, Lt Col William F. Dobbs, USAF, retired, (Salena) of Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. James C. Dobbs (Amber) of Lafayette, LA, and DMD Steven S. Dobbs of White Oak, GA. Judy's legacy continues through eight grandchildren, Nathanael F. Dobbs, Annamarie G. Dobbs, Jonathan W. Dobbs, Andrew J. Dobbs, Carter F. Dobbs, Evelyn J. Dobbs, Eleanor J. Dobbs, and Elaine J. Dobbs. She leaves behind one brother, James A. Carter; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Wade Funeral Home.
