Malone E. Bryant

Funeral Services for Mr. Malone E. Bryant will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 9, 2016 in The Wade Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Bryant was 85 years of age and passed away from this life on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at his residence in Collins. The Reverend Tommy Shields will officiate and Amy Pruitt and James Arrington Goff will provide the musical service. Interment will be in the Collins City Cemetery.

Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Ray Steele, Denny Britt, Jeremy Britt, Danny Waldrop, John B. Pope, II, and John B. Pope, III. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be all current and former Collins and Covington County Firefighters, and the Deacons and Elders of The Collins Presbyterian Church.


Malone Everett Bryant was born in Collins on August 12, 1930 to Dr. Thomas Sylvester Bryant and Mrs. Frances Virginia Everett Bryant. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he attained a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Arts, and a Specialist Degree in Clinical Counseling.

Malone Bryant served as a Medic in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He taught at Lone Star School where he met his wife of 64 years, Bennie Jean Leonard Bryant. He later served as principle at Wiggins High School. Malone was instrumental in organizing the Collins National Guard Unit and served as the first commanding officer. Mr. Bryant was a salesman for Thyer, a home construction company, and joined Mr. Fred Thyer in becoming one of the first members of the Collins Fire Department. He went on to serve as Chief of the Collins Fire Department and later became President of the Fire Chief's Association. Mr. Bryant was President of the Board of Trustees of the State Fire Academy.

Malone Bryant opened the Collins Supply Company . He was the first Real Estate Broker in Covington County. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees for JCJC and was elected Alderman-at-Large for the city of Collins. He also worked for the State of Mississippi in the Department of Energy and Transportation in Covington County and as Fire County Coordinator. He was active in state and local politics and worked for the U.S. Government as Economic Development Liaison for Congressman Mike Parker.
He was a lifetime member of Collins Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, sang in the choir, and served as both Deacon and Ruling Elder.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 2 sisters, Sybil Bryant Steele and Loree Bryant Jacks, and a brother, Thomas S. Bryant.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jean Leonard Bryant of Collins; 1 daughter, Barbara Jean Bryant Brister of Collins; 2 sons, Thomas Evon "Tommy" Bryant and his wife Sandy and Danny Malone Bryant and his wife Kathe, all of Collins; 1 brother, Franklin Bryant and his wife Dutchie of Hattiesburg; 6 grandchildren, Chris Brister, Danielle Bryant, Bailey Bryant, Steve Bryant, Dusty Bryant, and Shannon Napier; and one great grandchild, Caleb Malone Bryant; as well a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00am until 11:00am at Wade Funeral Home.

Friends desiring to do so are asked to make memorials in lieu of flowers to The Collins Presbyterian Church.
