Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Speed Flynt will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Leaf River Baptist Church. Mrs. Flynt, age 79, passed away from this life on Monday, May 6, 2024, in Laurel. Reverend Dr. Joseph Bird and Reverend Brian Dickens will officiate. The musical service will feature Gloria Barnes, Babette Duty, and Ellen Wills. Interment will follow in the Leaf River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Michael Taormina, Michael Speed, Clayton Speed, Peyton Flynt, Kevin Polk, and Mark Rogers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eli Flynt, Bryan Speed, Don Speed, Joe Speed, Joseph Speed, Rick Speed, Roger Quick, Billy Pape, Members of the Leaf River Baptist Church Ladies Sunday School Class, and The Nurses of the Maternal Child Unit at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Rachel Jean Speed Flynt was born September 30, 1944, in Laurel, to James Monroe Speed and Hazel Jean Warren Speed. Mrs. Flynt was a retired licensed practical nurse from South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Mrs. Flynt's nursing career spanned 38 years, with most of it in the Maternal-Child Nursing Unit at South Central. Mrs. Flynt was a member of Leaf River Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, James and Hazel Warren Speed; 1 brother, James William Speed; and her grandparents, Wood and Myrtle Rogers Speed and William and Molly Catherine Warren.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Donald R. Flynt of Collins, 2 sons, Jason Flynt (Regina) of Hattiesburg, and Jonathan Flynt of Collins; 2 grandsons, Eli Flynt and Peyton Flynt; a step-mother, Sammie Speed of Mt. Olive; and 2 brothers, Roger Wood Speed (Trish) and David M. Speed (Judy), all of Collins; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Speed; and 4 nieces and nephews, Alicia Russell, Michael Speed, Clayton Speed, and Kari Speed Williamson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:30am until 12:30pm on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Leaf River Baptist Church.
